The Scientigraf Chrono is the new chronograph version of Eberhard’s legendary 1961 anti-magnetic “Scientigraf” model, whose technical and aesthetic qualities are enhanced with the chronograph version and two chronograph counter fields.
To understand the thought process behind the Scientigraf Chrono, one has to look back a little: between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, Swiss fine watchmaking was confronted with a new challenge: The increasing prevalence of electrical household appliances, which became more and more present in people’s everyday lives after the war, affected the function of their valuable mechanical timepieces. Nothing dramatic, but due to their proximity to the now widespread electric fields, the magnetisation of watch components began to affect the functionality of the watches themselves and jeopardize the precision of their mechanical movements.
The Swiss Maison Eberhard, founded in 1887, addressed the problem and stays true to the retro appeal in its latest model: offering two counters, designed in an azuré finish, standing out against the black dial and the triangular element, which appears several times, is a real looker. The 41-mm case, alternately polished and satin-finished, houses a “Faraday cage”. A special structure made of soft iron that absorbs electromagnetic waves and ultimately protects the movement, whose precision is therefore not affected. The case back is screwed down and presents the original design of the model launched in 1961, with the logo and inscription recalling the anti-magnetic tests carried out at the time in the special facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
The Scientigraf Chrono comes with a Chassis® steel bracelet and a 2CLICK® double-pressure clasp personalized with the brand’s emblem.
